The program "Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Governance in Africa (SLGA)" is a GIZ program that aims to enhance land expertise in Africa through the establishment and coordination of the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA). NELGA is a network of 70+ universities from 40 African countries working on land governance issues to promote sustainable and equitable land governance through training and education programs, research, and policy advocacy. NELGA aims to foster respected rights for the use of and access to land, which are of key importance to guarantee the livelihoods of small-scale farmers and marginalized groups like ethnic minorities. The Department of Land and Spatial Sciences at the Namibia University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) coordinates this network in Southern Africa. In collaboration with the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), NELGA and the GIZ-SLGA program, NUST are planning to develop a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled "Introduction to Responsible Land Administration". The MOOC aims to increase NELGA's reach and diversify its audience by adapting the introductory module of the GLTN's Teaching Essentials for Responsible Land Administration. This initiative will not only benefit academic settings but will also be a great resource for continuous professional development courses and other formats for a wider audience beyond academia. The MOOC will play a critical role in strengthening the capacity of African professionals and policymakers in managing land governance issues, which is crucial for achieving sustainable development goals and shaping a future worth living for all.
