The object of contract is two macromolecular separation systems with multiple detectors: Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation / size-exclusion chromatography (AF4/SEC) coupled to MALS (red laser)/DLS/VISC/PDA/RI (“System 1”) and Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) instrument coupled to MALS (infrared laser)/UV/RI/FL (“System 2”). There is a need to move and use detectors between the Systems.
System 1 shall contain both AF4 and SEC separation capabilities and MALS (equipped with red laser), DLS, PDA, RI, and VISC detectors. The AF4/SEC instrument shall also contain a fraction collector. The System must include quaternary HPLC pump, autosampler, AF4 flow-control module, two analytical AF4 channels (which can be used with aqueous buffers and organic solvents) and the needed valves and tubing for connecting the modules. This versatile System is to be used for various macromolecules (synthetic polymers, polysaccharides, proteins) as well as for nanoparticles and macromolecular assemblies.
System 2 will be used as SEC instrument and the detectors must include MALS (equipped with infrared laser), UV, RI and FL detectors. Similar to the previous instrument set-up, the System must include quaternary HPLC pump, autosampler, and the needed valves and tubing for connecting the modules. This System will be used mainly for polysaccharide and lignin characterization. Lignin structures are fluorescing at the wavelength of the standard red laser (λ ~660 nm), and thus a laser with a higher wavelength (λ ~785 nm) is needed.
The detector modules from System 2 must also be able to be connected with the separation system from System 1 (e.g., run AF4 and use MALS with infrared laser).
