II.1.4) Trumpas aprašymas:
An open call will be launched in order to evaluate the state of the art of micro/nanoplastics risk assessment related to the areas of activity of European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The main goal is to conduct a pilot study regarding the application of new approach methodologies (NAMs) to assess possible risks arising from the presence of micro/nanoplastics in the food chain. Focus should be on adapting the generic guidance on nano-specific assessment to the risk assessment of micro/nanoplastics in food/feed and on proposing suitable NAM-based Integrated Approaches to Testing and Assessment (IATA).
The study proposal should clearly identify the status, gaps and needs in this area by:
a) performing a review and mapping of the relevant knowledge and resources,
b) proposing a methodological approach for risk assessment considering the current limitations and gaps AND
c) demonstrating the applicability of the approach proposed within case studies, targeting nanoplastics in food/feed.
The study will be developed in close collaboration with key players. The results will complement the overall NAMs4NANO[1] outcome and EFSA will exploit the achieved knowledge by engaging in the international efforts and initiatives. The outcome is expected to serve as basis to complement EFSA’s guidance documents on nanomaterials[2], at present under revision.
