TenneT is a leading electricity transmission system operator (TSO), headquartered in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and Bayreuth, Germany. TenneT manages over 24,500 kilometers of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage transmission lines, delivering reliable electricity to approximately 42 million end-users across the Netherlands and Germany. As the energy landscape evolves — with increasing demand and a growing share of renewables — TenneT is preparing its infrastructure for the future. The grid of tomorrow will depend not only on new connections, both onshore and offshore, but also on enhanced performance from existing systems under heavier loads. To meet these challenges, TenneT is launching a tender to implement advanced cable monitoring systems. These systems will offer critical insights into the performance and resilience of the grid’s lifelines — its cables — ensuring optimal operation as Europe transitions to a more sustainable energy future. The tender process is organized into three distinct lots, each focused on specific technologies: Lot 1: Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) – Brillouin Lot 2: Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) – Raman Lot 3: Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) Each lot will result in a framework agreement for a duration of 2 (two) years, with 6 (six) options to extend with 1 (one) year. The tender starts with a pre-qualification phase during the period April/July-25, where interested parties must demonstrate their managerial, technical and procedural capabilities. The tender itself is scheduled for the period August/December-25. During the Tender Phase For the hardware-related lots, a test setup is being prepared. This setup will be used to evaluate range and accuracy requirements and. Tenderer needs to fulfil minimum requirement as set out in the tender documents. TenneT may value the outcome as part of the MEAT evaluation.
